William J. Steele

William J. “Bill” Steele, age 82 of Eaton, Ohio, died on Sunday, September 1, 2024 at Hospice of Dayton surrounded by his children. Born on November 22, 1941 in Muncie, Indiana, son of the late Frederick William & Mary Alice (Warner) Steele.

He was a 1960 graduate of Eaton High School where he was a proud member of the undefeated 1958 Eaton Eagles Football team. He worked for 35 years with the city of Eaton as the water plant operator. He also enjoyed caring for lawns and wintering in Florida.

Bill proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam War from 1963 to 1965. Member of the American Legion Post 215 of Eaton.

Preceded by his brother, David Steele; sister, Marjorie Elaine Steele.

Survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Michael J. & Amber Steele; daughters & son-in-law, Margaret Ann “Peggy” & Bob Schuning and Holly Suzanne Steele; their mother, Phillis E. Steele; grandchildren, Madeleine D. Steele and Eleanor R. Steele; step grandchildren, Jenna Hering, Raven Schuning; step great grandchildren, Ethan Schuning, Colton Norris, Draven Norris, Elizabeth Hering, Robert Hering, and Harper Hering; brother & sister-in-law, Robert L. “Bob” & Joyce Steele; niece, Robin Smallwood; nephew, Jamie Steele; several cousins and friends. 

Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, September 9, 2024 at Barnes Funeral Home, 220 East Main Street, Eaton, Ohio. Interment will be held in Mound Hill Cemetery in Eaton, Ohio with Military Honors provided by the Preble County Honor Guard.
