WILLIAM DWIGHT HOOVER, 92, of New Paris, Ohio, died Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at Golden Rule Nursing Center in Richmond, Indiana. Born on August 12, 1917 in Greensfork Township, Randolph County, Indiana, he was the son of the late John Frank & Effie Mae (Pittenger) Hoover. He was a 1935 graduate of Spartanburg High School at Spartanburg, Indiana; served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was in the Battle of the Bulge; retired in 1982 from Parker-Hannifin at Lewisburg, Ohio; he worked at Moto-Mower, Dille McGuire and Brower Motors all in Richmond, Indiana and Hollinger's Garage in Hollansburg, Ohio. He was a member of the Clarence Teaford American Legion Post #360 in New Paris, Ohio.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother: Charles Hoover; half brother: Roger C. Hoover; sisters: Bertha Newman and Miriam Cougill; nephews: Niles Hoover & Galen Hoover.
William is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mabel M. (Stoneburner) Hoover; daughter & son-in-law: Cheryl L. & E. L. "Butch" Burkhardt of Richmond, Indiana; nieces, nephews, cousins, special neighbors and his beloved "Kitter-Kats".
Funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at the Barnes Funeral Home, 109 West Main Street, New Paris, Ohio 45347 with Father Todd Riebe officiating. Family received friends on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Graveside Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Spring Lawn Cemetery in New Paris, Ohio with full military honors provided by the Preble County Honor Guard and Father Todd Riebe officiating.
