Wayne E. Harmon, Jr.

Wayne E. Harmon, Jr., 72, of Eldorado, Ohio died Friday, January 1, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton, OH. He was born July 13, 1937 in Youngstown, OH, the son of Wayne E. & Jean Roberta (Holtzman) Harmon Sr. On March 19, 1960, he married Lynne J. Darr, who preceded him in death on June 7, 2008.

Wayne retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Ohio Army National Guard in 1980. Following his retirement, he attended truck-driving school. He became an owner-operator trucker, a job he continued until retirement in 2006. Wayne was very community-minded, and was active in the West Manchester Lions Club, the West Manchester American Legion, a member of the West Manchester Pool Board, and was one of the founding organizers of what is now the North Central Rescue Squad. One of his most loved hobbies was horse training.

Wayne was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Lou Peak; his parents, and his wife.

He is survived by 4 daughters: Becky (Brian) Ebersole & Cheryl (Kent) West of Eldorado, OH; Renee` (Rodger) Mart of Brookville, OH; Roberta (Keith) Mackey of Xenia, OH; 2 sons: Jeff Harmon of Verona, OH & Jimmy (Lisa) Harmon of Eldorado, OH; 11 grandchildren: Melinda Burr, Justin Washington, Eric Washington, Kami Ebersole, Matthew Adams, Brandon Harmon, Vanessa Harmon, Rodger Mart, Ryan Mart, Colton Schmidt, Dalton Harmon; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Carol Baker, Seymour, TN.

The Funeral Service for Wayne E. Harmon, Jr. will be Thursday, January 7 at 11:00 AM at the Bussard-Barnes-Vaniman Funeral Home, 311 North Main St., Eldorado, OH 45321. Burial will follow in Wares Chapel Cemetery, West Manchester, OH, with military services by the Preble County Honor Guard. Friends may call Wednesday, January 6 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
