Ward L. Hypes

WARD L. HYPES, age 86, of Lewisburg, Ohio, died Sunday, June 22, 2008 at his residence. Born on January 25, 1922 in Clay Township, Montgomery County, Ohio, he was the son of the late John A. & Ada Hypes. Ward proudly served with the 99th "Checkerboard" Division, U.S. Army in Europe during World War II during the Battle of the Bulge, Ramagen, Rhineland and Ruhr Pocket where he received the Bronze Star. After the war, he worked with his parents in a coal yard, was a fertilizer salesman and at an Agriculture Farm Center. Ward retired in 1987 after nearly 50 years in the Agricultural Chemical Field with several firms including; Monsanto, Royster, Swift & Co., Continental Grain, Farm Bureau and Maxel Elevator in Verona, Ohio.
Ward and his son, Tom shared a 100 acre farm in Preble County, Ohio for several years. He enjoyed hunting in the U.S. and fly-in fishing for 40 years in Ontario, Canada. Ward was an avid Ohio State Buckeye Football Fan. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Eaton, Ohio, American Legion in Eaton, Ohio and Life Member of the V.F.W. in Brookville, Ohio.

Preceded in death by his brothers, Kyle & Clayton Hypes; sisters, Mabel Dunnier and Pat Hawkey.

Survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary L. (Stiver) Hypes of Lewisburg, Ohio; children & spouses, David Hypes of Falmouth, Michigan, Tom & Julia Hypes of Lewisburg, Ohio, Dean & Kris Townsend of Thornville, Ohio; three step grandchildren, six step great grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, June 26, 2008 at Barnes Funeral Home - 411 North Commerce Street - Lewisburg, Ohio 45338 with Rev. Wayne Morrison officiating. Interment will be held in Sugar Grove Cemetery in Twin Township, Preble County, Ohio with Full Military Honors provided by the Preble County Honor Guard. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
