Virginia M. (Evans) Hoppel, 88, a longtime resident of Eaton, Ohio died Wednesday, April 18, 2012 in Mishawaka, IN. Born May 3, 1923, in Union City, Ohio, she was the daughter of Robley Clifford Evans and Mauna Loa Horine Evans. She was graduated from Union City, IN, High School in 1941 and Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing in the Spring 1947 class, Dayton, OH, with a registered nurse degree. Virginia worked as an R.N. in several capacities - with family practice physicians in Eaton and Middletown, Ohio; with Eaton City Schools and with the Preble County Speech and Hearing Program as a nurse coordinator. She was also a Preble County Board of Elections Poll Worker for many years. Virginia was an active member of Omicron Sigma Sorority for 27 years and then an honorary member. She was a member of the Eaton United Church of Christ. Virginia loved to read and learn; she particularly enjoyed history, travel and the out-of-doors, enthusiasm for which she imparted to her family and friends. She and her mother were skilled sewers who made many clothing outfits for her daughters.

Preceding Virginia in death were her husband of 60 years, Paul F., whom she married on November 26, 1949, in Dayton; her parents; stepfather, Charles Bruce Evans; and two stepbrothers, John Evans and Charles Evans.

Survivors include her daughters, Linda (Dawn Bontrager) Hoppel of Mishawaka, IN and Cathy (Mark Harrell) Hoppel-Harrell of Marengo, OH; sister, Mary Minnich Frazier of Eaton Rapids, MI; brother, Eugene (Harriet) Evans of Warren, IN; sister-in-laws, Miriam (Eugene) Evans Bender of the San Diego, CA area, Gladys Freidline of Xenia, OH, and Kay (Ward) Reiss of Oak Park, VA; nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held on Sunday April 22, 2012 at 2:00pm at Barnes Funeral Home in Eaton, OH with Rev Roger L. Stine officiating. Interment will be held in Mound Hill cemetery at Eaton, OH. Family will receive friends on Sunday from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
