Virgil Nickell, age 83, of Somerville, Ohio, died Sunday, August 5, 2007 at his residence. Born on March 8, 1924 in Morgan County, Kentucky he was the son of the late James Shelby & Bessie (Williams) Nickell. Virgil proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II for 4 years. During the war, he drove heavy duty motor vehicles transporting both troops and equipment during the battle of Northern France. He retired in August 1978 from General Motors in Moraine, Ohio after 30 years as an assembler. Life member of D.A.V. of Middletown, Ohio. He was an avid outdoorsman and gardener. The family would like to thank all who have been supportive during this difficult time. A special thanks to Dr. James Thomson.
Preceded in death by his step mother: Mae Nickell; brothers: Elwood Nickell, Tommy Nickell and Monroe Nickell; special nephew: Robert Pennix; nephew: Jerry Nickell.
Survived by his wife of 52 years: Frances Ann (Kennard) Nickell; sons & daughters-in-law: Steve & Brenda Nickell of Somerville, Ohio and Dave & Ima Nickell of Camden, Ohio; sister & brother-in-law: Frank & Dorothy Cooper of Arkansas; grandchildren: Jennifer K. & Matthew Scott “Matt” Denlinger of West Alexandria, Ohio and Justin Wayne Nickell of West Alexandria, Ohio; great granddaughter: Destiny Ann Nickell of West Alexandria, Ohio; nephews & nieces: James “Jimmy” & Darlene Pennix of Hamilton, Ohio, Scott & Velma Pennix of Germantown, Ohio, Monroe Nickell of Oklahoma, Rick Nickell, Robin Nickell, Terry Nickell, and Sherry Nickell; great nephews: Bobby Scott Pennix of Georgia; many cousins and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at Nein-Barnes Funeral Home - 249 North Main Street - Camden, Ohio with Rev. Greg F. Jackson officiating. Interment will be held at Fairmound Cemetery in West Elkton, Ohio with full military honors provided by the Preble County Honor Guard. Family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
