Vernon L. Pittman

Vernon L. Pittman, age 72, of New Paris, OH, died Thursday evening July 29, 2010 at Hospice of Dayton. Born on September 25, 1937 in Greenville, Darke County, OH he was the son of the late Ernest L. & Effie Mae (Cotterman) Pittman. Vernon served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1963. He retired in 2004 from Wernle Children's Home in Richmond, IN as a Child Care Supervisor. He had also worked at Preble County M.R.D.D for 11 years and the Champaign Residential Services, Inc. Life member of the V.F.W. and AmVets both of Brookville, OH and St. Paul United Methodist Church in New Paris, OH. Preceded in death by Son: Thomas Vernon Pittman in 1970; Sisters: Thelma Bray and Virginia Ester Pittman; Brother: Gerald Pittman.

Survived by wife of 41 years: Elaine (Graver) Pittman; Son & Daughter-In-Law: Tim & Melissa Pittman of Hagerstown, IN; Daughter & Son-In-Law: Cara & Shawn Ditton of Eaton, OH; Sisters: Geneva Bennett and Beverly Akers both of Sidney, OH; Doris Gill of Anna, OH; Marcella Bodenmiller of Jackson Center, OH and Ruth Barhorst of Piqua, OH; Brothers: Lawrence Pittman of Piqua, OH; Roger Brown of Anna, OH and Duane Brown of TX; Grandchildren: Jacob Ditton and Emily Ditton; Maggie Pittman and Lacy Mangas.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday August 3, 2010 at Barnes Funeral Home, 109 West Main Street, New Paris, OH with Pastor Rodney Shelley officiating. Interment will be held in Spring Lawn Cemetery in New Paris, OH with full military honors provided by the Preble County Honor Guard. Family will receive friends on Monday August 2, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
