Verna J. Arden

Verna J. Arden, age 89 of Richmond, IN died Tuesday January 16, 2024, at her residence. Born on September 28, 1934, in Preble County, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Henry T. & Lucille (Cowgill) Braughton. She was a Jefferson High School Graduate in New Paris and was the Owner & Operator of a Child Day Care Center in Florida. She trained and raced standard bred horses. Member of the Eagles Auxiliary in Lockhart, Florida; American Legion Auxiliary of New Paris; VFW Auxiliary in Winter Park, FL; Am Vets Auxiliary of Eldorado, OH; she enjoyed going to Berties of Richmond.

Preceded in death by Brothers: William Braughton, Robert Braughton, Gary Braughton and Herschel Braughton; sons: Daniel Ross and Jeffery Ross; grandson: Daniel Ross and great granddaughter: Lorena Valencia.

Survivors include her husband of 33 years: Laurie E. Arden III; 3 Daughters: Karen Mappes of Indianapolis, IN; Debbie Stephens of Ohio and Tori Arden of Richmond, IN. Sisters: Joann Moore of New Paris, OH and Linda Johnson of New Paris, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday, January 22, 2024, at Barnes Funeral Home, 109 W. Main St., New Paris, Ohio. The funeral service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at the funeral home with Pastor Dave McQueen officiating. Interment will be held at Spring Lawn Cemetery in New Paris.
