Uella Grace Yost, 95 went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 31, 2017. She was born near Las Animas (Bent County), CO on January 3, 1922, to the late Marion Arthur & Ardus Iona (Oxley) Roesch, and spent her childhood years in the McClave, CO area. She was the oldest of five children. Her father was a farmer/minister and she experienced keenly the Dust Bowl days and the Great Depression. She met her spouse, Donald E. Yost, while working as a chaplain’s secretary at the La Junta, CO USAAF Field where he was a cadet, and was married at Maxwell Field in Montgomery, Alabama on Sept. 29, 1945. She spent her married life as a homemaker and farm wife, was a very accomplished seamstress, a beautiful embroiderer, crocheted many afghans, and made many handmake quilts. She taught a 4-H sewing club for 14 years, was very active in Preble County extension homemakers, serving as county president several years, was active in Farm Bureau and Farm Bureau council, and was active with her husband in the Preble County Jersey Breeder’s Club. She and her husband were also very involved in the first years of the Preble County Pork Festival. She also volunteered as a Gray Lady (first aid) in the Gratis schools, and worked many years as cashier in Gratis Middle School of Preble Shawnee. She grew up in the Dunkard Brethren Church, and was a life time member of State Road EUB, then United Methodist Church, where she and her husband were very involved as youth leaders and in many other leadership roles for many years. In recent years, she has regularly attended Fairhaven Community Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 54 years, Donald E. Yost; her brother George E. Roesch and sister-in-law, Miriam Roesch, sisters and brothers-in-law, Esther and Dwight Hazlett and Lela and Wilbur Beegles, brother-in-law, James Crisp, and great-grandson, Jonathan Vesely.
She is survived by her sister, Ilah Crisp, Berthoud, CO, her children: Marion Robert (Jennifer) Yost, Silver City, NM; Maribeth Sue (Daniel) Hays, Camden, OH; Dr. William Michael (Donna) Yost, Wooster, OH. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Michael (Vanessa) Yost, Taeron and Tayson; Roberta Vesely, Joshua and Caleb (Fiancé, David Berry); Nathan (Amy) Yost, Cade, Bailey and Seth; Paul (Beth) Hays, Ethan, Natalie and Clara; Donald (Sarah) Hays, Caleb and Jackson: Dennis (Cheryll) Hays, Brittanie and Uella; Matthew (Abby) Yost, Claire and Samantha; Julie (Nathan) Hudson, Alivia and Lyla; Andrew (Jessica) Yost, Rosemary. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Special thanks to her caregivers from Miami Valley Home Care, especially Lakeysha Brown and Rachael Harlan for their extraordinary, compassionate care.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Barnes Funeral Home, 220 East Main St., Eaton, OH and one hour prior to service at the church on Thursday. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the Fairhaven Community Church, 6585 Israel Somers Rd, Fairhaven, OH with Rev. Dr. Richard Studebaker officiating at the church. Interment will be held in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis, OH.
