Sylvanis (Syl) Gunter, Sr.

Sylvanis "Syl" Gunter, Sr., 85 of Camden, OH died Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford, OH. Born on October 26, 1930 in Kenvir, Harlin County, KY he was the son of the late Joseph & Lillie Mae (Partin) Gunter. Syl retired in 1993 as a Police Supervisor from Miami University after 23 years of service. He served on police departments in Camden and Oxford Township and with the Preble County Sheriff Special Deputies. Active with the Camden Fire Department he helped in the construction of the current Camden Fire Station. A Kentucky Colonel, member of the Hamilton F.O.P. #38 and Camden Community Church. Preceded in death by brother: Joe Edward Gunter; sisters: Mittie Johnson, Gladys Clark, Aretha Mae Gunter, Malta Gunter, Virginia McPeek and Myrtle Gunter.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years: Ruby J. (Wells) Gunter; children: Cheryl & Wesley Napier of Somerville, OH; Sylvia J. Arcuragi, Sylvanis Gunter, Jr. and Gerri M. Gunter all of Camden, OH. Grandchildren: Keith Arcuragi, Dalton Gunter, Caleb Napier, Seth Napier and Shyanne Gunter.

Family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday, August 5, 2016 at Barnes Funeral Home, 220 East Main Street, Eaton, Ohio. The funeral service will be 10:00 AM Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the funeral home with Pastor Douglas L. Rose officiating. Interment will be in Fairmount Cemetery in Camden, OH.
