Ruth I. Hemp

Ruth I. Hemp, 101, Eldorado's oldest citizen, died peacefully Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Greenbriar Nursing Center, Eaton, Ohio, where she had been for only 3 weeks.
Ruth was born September 2, 1907 in Preble County, the second youngest of seven children born to Jacob N. and Effie L. (Comer) Stoner. The family moved to a farm in Darke County when Ruth was about 7 years of age, and in 1939 moved back to Preble County once again, living in the village of Eldorado. On January 19, 1946, Ruth married John Hemp, and they moved to a farm in Darke County, where they were together for 12 years before his death. Following his death, she moved back to Eldorado, where she lived for the remainder of her life.
After John's death, Ruth worked for the local telephone office, Miller Hardware, Palace Royal and Knollenbergs, where she retired as a seamstress in October 1972. Ruth loved working in her yard, and shared many flower seeds with Eldorado residents. She will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth is preceded in death by her sisters and brothers; Esther Merritt, Rachel Booher, Mary Stoner, Sarah Penrod, Henry Stoner and John Stoner.
Survivors include: Step-Daughter-in-Law, Barbara Hemp; Step Grandchildren, John Hemp, Ben Hemp, Joy Hemp and Cindy Sawyer; Brother-in-Law, Kyle Booher; Nephews, Waldo Stoner, Gary Stoner, Larry Stoner, Paul Booher, Kyle Booher; Special Friends, Bud & Helen Oler.

The funeral service for Ruth I. Hemp will be Thursday, April 16, 2009 at 11:00AM at the Bussard-Barnes-Vaniman Funeral Home, 311 N. Main St., Eldorado, OH, with Pastor Terry Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Otterbein Cemetery, New Madison, Ohio. Friends may call Wednesday, April, 15, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
