Richard W. Gilmer, Sr.

RICHARD W. GILMER Sr., age 87, of Lewisburg, OH, died Friday October 8, 2004 near Brookville, OH. Born February 18, 1917 in Lewisburg, OH, son of the late Claude and Helen (Coy) Gilmer. 1935 graduate of Lewisburg Union High School, WWII U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran from 1941 to 1945 stationed in New Guinea and Philippines. Attended University of Susquehannah as an Aviation Cadet; Recieved his Associates Degree from Sinclair Community College; Worked for Chrysler Corporation - Airtemp Division in Dayton, OH as a Product Development Supervisor - Engineering Department for 40 years retiring in 1976. Former Mayor of Lewisburg from 1980 to 1984; Served on the Lewisburg Village Council from 1965 to 1967; Trustee for the Brown Memorial Library in Lewisburg; Served on the Lewisburg School Board. Member Dayton Engineer’s Club; American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers; Paul Sodders Post 213 American Legion; 50 year member Libanus Lodge #80 Free and Accepted Masons; Lewisburg United Methodist Church; Army Airways Communication System; Air Force Museum at Dayton and the Lewisburg Alumni Association. He is preceded in death by his Step-Father: John Spaulding.

Survived by his wife of 63 years: Betty H. (Coffman) Gilmer. Sons and daughters-in-law: R. Kip & Vicki Gilmer of Mason, OH, Richard W. & Carol Gilmer Jr. of Bryan, OH, Randall E. & Laurie Gilmer of Spring, TX, Kim A. & Lynn Gilmer of Columbus, OH. Daughter: Sharon L. Gilmer Cannavino of Spring, TX. Brother: Robert Spaulding of Seal Beach, CA. Twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at the Lewisburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Pratt officiating. Interment will be held in Roselawn Cemetery in Lewisburg with full military honors provided by the Preble County Honor Guard. Family will receive friends on Monday, October 11, 2004 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Barnes Funeral Home - 411 North Commere Street- Lewisburg, OH, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Masonic services 7:00 P.M. Monday, October 11, 2004 at the funeral home.
