Pricie Edward "Ed" Johnson, 62 years, 1 month, 27 days, all of which mattered, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, July 30, 2011 with his mother, his wife, and his children by his side.
He was preceded in death by his father, Pricie Johnson, Jr.
Ed is survived by his mother Oleta (VanCleave) Johnson; his wife of 41 years, Joyce (Ark) Johnson; his children Luke (Anne) Johnson of Belpre, OH; Tim (Sommer) Johnson of Piedmont, SC and Abby (Jon) Helsinger of Eaton, OH; four grandchildren Merrick and Claire Johnson, Audrey Helsinger and Baby Helsinger due August 14, 2011; a brother Alva (Beth) Johnson. He is also survived by several sisters-in-law and brothers-in law, nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles in addition to his brothers of the Middletown Firefighters Association Local 336.
Ed was known to his friends and family as an avid reader and a dedicated firefighter who served the City of Middletown for 21 years. He was a member of the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) and was a former Vice President of the Middletown Firefighters Association Local 336.
Before joining the fire department, Ed served 4 years in the U.S. Navy, sailing on the USS Coral Sea - a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a 1967 graduate of Preble Shawnee.
According to Ed, he lived a blessed life; he married his high school sweetheart and built his dream home, a log cabin in the woods where he resided for 31 years.
A memorial service will be held at the Camden United Methodist Church, 100 S. Lafayette Street, Camden, OH at 11 am on Wednesday, August 3, 2011. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 2, 2011 5pm – 8pm at Nein-Barnes Funeral Home, 249 N. Main St., Camden, OH and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. The Preble County Honor Guard will perform military honors at the church.
