Philip R. Johnson, 87 of Richmond, IN and formerly of Eaton, OH, died Friday, November 14, 2008 in Richmond, IN. Born on October 8, 1921 in Carmel, IN, he was the son of the late John Grant & Goldah Retta (Roberts)Johnson. Phil retired in 1981 from Eaton High School after 30 years of teaching government and history. He had also taught in Camden, OH. A 1939 graduate of Centerville High School in Indiana and a 1950 graduate of Earlham College in Richmond. He attended the University of Chicago and Miami University and earned his Masters Degree in History in 1964. A member of the Eaton County Club for 35 years, Investors Limited Stock Club for over 40 years, West Elkton Friends Church, Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Life Member of O.E.A., O.R.T.A. and N.E.A. He was a WW II U.S. Navy veteran having served in both theaters as a Seabee and was a member of the U.S. Navy CEC/Seabee Historical Foundation, Inc. Preceded in death by wife: Loy E. Johnson in 2005; brother: J.W. Johnson.

Survived by son: Paul Grant Johnson of Eaton, Ohio; daughters & sons-in-law: Karen L. and George E. Wehrley of Gahanna, Ohio and Kathy E. Johnson and husband Brian Condran of Martinez, California; brothers & sisters-in-law: Charles A. and Virginia Johnson, AZ, James G. and Helen Johnson, Dana, IN. Grandchildren: Rachel and her husband Steve Osmun, Joshua Johnson, Jamie Lee Johnson and James Sherwood. Great grandsons: Paul Philip Johnson and Ryder Osmun; Nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2008 in the community room at Friends Fellowship Community - 2030 Chester Blvd. - Richmond, Indiana 47374 with Chaplain Maureen McCarthy officiating. Interment will be held in Crown Hill Cemetery, Centerville, Indiana at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the West Elkton Friends Church, P.O. Box 27, West Elkton, Ohio 45070. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the community room.
