Paula S. Sweet

It is with great sadness that the family of Paula Sue Sweet, 72, announces their final good-byes. Paula passed away Nov. 10, 2022, surrounded by loved ones after a sudden illness. Paula was a lifelong resident of New Paris, OH but has resided the last several years in Richmond, IN at The Leland Legacy.

Paula was born October 14th,1950 to Harry and Eleanor Irelan and was raised in New Paris, OH. Paula was daughter number 3 of the 6 Irelan sisters. The 6 sisters have maintained a very close bond throughout their lives. Paula graduated from Jefferson High School in New Paris Ohio in 1968. She was a cheerleader and played saxophone in the band. She worked for many years in the banking industry in both Richmond and Eaton. When Paula wasn’t working, she spent her time attending her boys sporting events, which is where her love for football first began. She enthusiastically loved football, especially her Green Bay Packers. Paula was known as mom to not only her boys, Cory and Aron, but to many of their friends. She spoke fondly of the memories of having a house full of boys and the joys of feeding them all. After the boys were grown, she put herself through school and obtained an associate degree from Miami-Jacobs. She worked at the Horenstein, Nicholson, and Blumenthal Law firm in Dayton, OH as a legal secretary and later a paralegal. After 18 years and many work friendships, she retired in 2015.

Her pride and joy were her boys and her grandchildren. Paula is survived by her two sons, Cory (Sherry) Sweet of Dublin Ohio and grandchildren Kailey and Avery, and son Aron (Jessi) Sweet of Centerville Indiana and grandchildren Jade and Brady. She is also survived by sisters, Becky Paul of Richmond, Nancy Sexton, Ellen (Ed) Baker of Eldorado, and Angie (Aaron) Morman of Brookville, Ohio. Paula had a large family that included many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews that also cherished her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Laura Keckler of Richmond, IN.

The family wishes to express their utmost gratitude to the staff of the Leland Legacy not only for their compassion in caring for Paula over the last several years, but for also making it her home. Paula had a deep love for all the staff as well as her many friends there at the Leland. In addition we would like to extend our gratitude to Reid Hospice for the care and guidance they gave over the last two weeks. Paula requested that there be no formal service. Her wish was for there to be a party in her honor, to recall the wonderful memories and share stories. The Party in Memory of Paula Sweet will be held on Sunday, November 20th, 2022 from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M. at the New Paris American Legion 215 N Washington St, New Paris, OH 45347.
