Michael M. Townsend, 65, of Eaton passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 in Greenville OH after a 3 year battle with cancer. Mike was born December 26, 1949 in Greenville, OH. Preceding him in death were his parents, Lydia M. (Marker) Townsend in 2003 and Donald D. Townsend 1993 along with late wife Christine L. (White) Townsend in 2007. Mike was a graduate of Eaton High School Class of 1968 where he starred on the basketball team, at one point holding the single game scoring record. He attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. His love for sports continued throughout his life, sharing in that love with both his sons.

He began a career in public service that began in 1971 with the Ohio Department of Transportation, District 8. In 1980 he accepted the position of Deputy County Engineer in Preble County where he remained until 1996. It was during this time he is most remembered for his service to the community. He was instrumental in obtaining funding for the improvements of roads and bridges throughout Preble County, most notably with the former state program known as Issue 2. Mike was a true public servant in every sense of the definition.

Mike was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Eaton, OH. Mike was a dual member of the Masonic Lodge, Bolivar Lodge #82 in Eaton, OH and Buckeye Lodge #150 in New Richmond, OH, and was also a member of the Antioch Shriners of Dayton, OH. Mike was also a member of the Flexible Pavement Association of Ohio and The Ohio Contractors Association. During his battle with cancer he was a member of the Cancer Support Community of Greater Cincinnati.

Survivors include his wife of 6 years, Vickie Staffend-Roland of West Chester, OH; sons Christopher M. Townsend of Greenville, OH and Eric M. Townsend of Eaton, OH; brother, Dean (Kris) Townsend of Thornville, OH.

Services will be a private ceremony for family and close friends.
