Mary Reeves

Mary (Skocich) REEVES, age 88, formerly of Eaton, Ohio died January 10, 2011 in Austell, GA. She was born in Barberton, Ohio on January 8, 1923, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Liposcak) Skocich. She graduated from Barberton High School in January 1941 and attended the Barberton School of Commerce. Later, she was employed at the Dime Savings Bank in Akron, Ohio. She married Donald E Reeves, on August 19, 1950 in St. Augustine Church in Barberton, Ohio. She served with her husband during his thirty year military career through numerous assignments in the United States and in Germany and Turkey. During those times when she did not accompany her husband, she was the bond of love that held the family together and was both mother and father to their six children. Her husband of 59 years preceded her in death in 2009.

Mary is survived by her children: Ann E. Keene and husband, James of Monrovia, MD; David E Reeves, Major, USMC, Retired and wife Nancy L., Captain US Navy, and their children, Christian, Cadet 4th Class, US Military Academy, Kyle and Jessie of Virginia Beach VA; Mary Kay Hertog, Major General, USAF and husband Herman, III, Chief Master Sergeant, USAF, Retired of Biloxi, MS; Timothy J Reeves, Lieutenant Colonel, USMC, Retired and daughter Sarah of Virginia Beach, VA; Nancy P Reeves-Flores, Colonel USAF of Ramstein AB, Germany and husband, Chris, and Joseph T. Reeves, Major, USAF, Retired, and wife Susan of Dallas, GA and Joseph's stepdaughters Melinda and Jessica and granddaughter Anna Claire. She is also survived by her brother, Joseph Skocich (Dottie) of Akron, Ohio; and sister, Catherine Senuta of Barberton, Ohio, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Her mother, father and sister Ann Smith preceded her in death. Although she was not a member of the armed forces of our great nation, Mary was a real trooper and veteran in every sense of the word, admirably fulfilling the duties and responsibilities as the spouse of a military member.

Family will receive friends on Sunday January 16th, 2011 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Barnes Funeral Home, 220 East Main Street, Eaton, Ohio. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the Church of the Visitation; 407 East Main Street, Eaton, OH 10:00 AM on Monday January 17, 2011 celebrated by Father Charles Caserta. Interment will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton, OH.
