LLOYD A. "GUS" MATHENY, JR. 88, of Eaton, Ohio, died Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Heartland of Eaton. Gus was born on August 16, 1924 in Parkersburg, West Virginia, son of the late Lloyd Allen and Jenny Belle (Fridley) Matheny, Sr. Gus was a 1942 graduate of Eaton High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during WWII. In 1979 Gus retired from the Palladium Item in Richmond, Indiana, where he was a printer for 25 years. Following his retirement he was a bartender at Yoder's Sail Inn in Eaton for 10 years; was the Junior Varsity Baseball coach at National Trail High School for 7 years and after moving to Naples, Florida he worked at the Naples Yacht Club for 15 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 213 in Eaton and the New Hope United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents Gus is preceded in death by his brother, Samuel D. Matheny; sisters, Vesta Matheny, Margaret E. Hafer and Zelma V. Heckman.

Gus is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mike L. and Donna Matheny of Morgantown, West Virginia; daughters and son-in-law, Connie J. and Tom Busick of Indianapolis, Indiana and Kim A. Cole of Miamisburg, Ohio; special friend, Janet Gordon of Miamisburg, Ohio; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Barnes Funeral Home, 220 East Main Street, Eaton, Ohio 45320 with Pastor Brady Feltz officiating. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm and 10:00 to 10:30 am on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment with full military honors provided by the American Legion Honor Guard Post 322 of West Alexandria will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Preble Memory Gardens.
