LESLIE ANN DILLMAN, 89, of Camden, died Sunday, May 8, 2011 at McCullough Hyde Hospital in Oxford, OH. Born on October 7, 1921 in Lakewood, OH, she was the daughter of the late Leslie & Mitzie (Nuetz) Hawkes.
Leslie was a well organized, fun loving individual who has given much dedication and commitment to assist the efforts of several agencies helping people in need in Preble County.
In 1983 she agreed to serve on the Preble County United Way Advisory Board. She served two terms on this board and until 1987, helped determine allocations of funds for local agencies. From 1984 to 1990, she represented Preble County on United Ways Information and Referral Board, working at various projects to bring information services to the tri-county area. She transcribed I & R statistics for the local United Way office so that numbers of clients can be recorded, noting the types and amounts of services needed in this area. She also assisted as a general office volunteer for United Way. In 1990 she served as Preble County and I & Rs representative to the Community and Agency Resource Council, a United Way of the Greater Dayton Area board. This position meant considerable time and travel to ensure Preble County representation on this board, which considers important tri-county issues.
In 1980, Leslies husband Edward J. Dillman, Sr. died, she began efforts to establish the Widowed Persons Services in our county. She served as coordinator of WPS from 1983 to 1985 and has worked on many committees. In 1986 she became a member of the Preble County Department of Human Services Board and later became Secretary of the Board in 1989. A member and Secretary of the Council on Aging Board of Trustees. She was elected President of the Board in May 1990. As President, she provided the courage and leadership needed to consider the options and confront the question of a tax levy for Senior Services in the county. After the decision was made to ask the voters for levy support, Leslie was there with her time, financial help and general effort to pass the levy on behalf of Senior Citizens in the county.
Leslie was the owner/operator of Leslies Dog Grooming in Camden since 1972, member of the Camden Area Historical Preservation Foundation, served on the boards of the Camden Board of Public Affairs, Deer Run Camp Resort, Camden area Town Hall Project and Camden Chamber of Commerce, awarded in 1992 the J.C.
