John Richard Purviance

John Richard Purviance died July 15, 2007 in Ft. Myers, Florida after a prolonged illness. John was born on March 28, 1918 in Dayton, Ohio the son of the late Earnest & Grace (Williams) Purviance of New Paris, Ohio. He was a 1936 graduate of Fairview High School. He attended Purdue University where he studied Engineering until WW II broke out and he enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Dorothy Jean Carter of Dayton Ohio in 1944 and had three children. He was employed by Eaton Corporation and eventually worked at the Tech Center in Farmington Hills Michigan as a method engineer until he retired in 1983. He retired to Salem, S.C. where he enjoyed boating and golf and was a member of Keowee Key Country Club in Salem South Carolina and very active within the Keowee Key community.

Survivors include his wife: Nancy; three children: Dr. David C. Purviance of Glastonbury, CT, Richard D. Purviance of Louisville, KY and Suzanne Harris of Chicago, IL; Five grandchildren, David Scott Purviance, Dr. John D. Purviance, Dr. Kevin C. Purviance, Adam Tyler Purviance, Katherine M. Purviance and Jean R. Purviance; two great grandchildren Justin T. Purviance and Ryan C. Purviance.

Memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family with interment in Springlawn Cemetery in New Paris, Ohio.
