John J. "Jerry" Maloney

John J. “Jerry” Maloney, 95, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2024 at his residence. Born on May 30, 1929 in Dayton, Ohio, he was the son of the late John J. and Mary Elizabeth (Gough) Maloney, Jr.

Jerry packed a whole lot of living into 95 years. His first job was a paper route (during WWII) that paid for his pigeon keeping. His entire life he kept all sorts of animals - from wildlife rescues to Appaloosa & quarter horses, hunting dogs, chickens & waterfowl to a huge herd of dairy goats.

He used to tear up the floor at the Germantown and Beavercreek roller rinks where he met Barb. He knew everyone and the organists used to work with him to really rev up the crowd. He was quite a sight, whipping around the rink, twirling a white hanky around his head like a lasso, never missing a beat.

Most of his work life was spent at Armco Steel Mill, on the railroad and in the scrap prep yard. It was dangerous work, but it allowed him to be outside as much as possible. He loved to tell stories often at his own expense about all the (mis)adventures he and his coworkers had.

Starting in the early 1980s, he and Barb kept a booth at the Centerville Antique Mall. After Barb passed, Margie took over helping until they closed the shop in 2002.

All along the way, he made dear friends, most now gone. He was one of a kind.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his Wives: Barbara Sue (McClurg) Maloney and Joanne Eversole; Son: Gary Maloney, and Brother: Charles Maloney.

Survived by his Wife of 32 years: Margie M. (Royer) Maloney; Children: Karin Maloney (Tom) Anderson, Shaun (Ashley Nicodemus) Maloney; Stepdaughter: Kelly (Fry) Looker and Step-Son: Kevin (Rhonda) Fry; Daughter-in-law: Debbie (Simpson) Maloney; Sister-in-law: Thelma Maloney; Grandchildren: Kristy Maloney, Kane Maloney, Nicholas Maloney, Eamonn Maloney Anderson, Hollyn Maloney Anderson, Liam Maloney Anderson, Tiernan Maloney Anderson and Piper Maloney.

At Jerry’s request, there will be no services. Arrangements Entrusted to Barnes Funeral Home, Eaton, Ohio.
