JOHN H. “Hoot” GIBSON, age 89, of Brookville, Ohio died Sunday, January 4, 2004 at Brookhaven Nursing Center in Brookville, Ohio. Born on June 20, 1914 in Gower, Missouri, he was the son of the late James William & Lula Theodore (Deakins) Gibson. He was a 1932 graduate of Gower High School and a 1938 graduate of the University of Missouri with a B.S. in Agriculture. He retired in 1974 as an Assistant State Conservationist in the Soil Conservation Service - U.S. Department of Agriculture having served in Missouri, Ohio and Maryland. He was a WW II U.S. Army Air Corp veteran and a retired officer in the Air Force Reserves. He was a member of the Central Christian Church in Kettering, Ohio, the American Farmland Trust, the Soil Conservation Service Retired Employees and was a Life Member of the Soil Conservation Society of America and the American Legion. He was an avid woodworker for many years. Preceded in death by Wife: Blanche Louise (Simpson) Gibson in 2000; Sister: Gladys Gibson Beery; Brothers: Jay, Robert, Richard and Lawrence Gibson.
Survived by Daughter & Son-In-Law: Nancy L. & Dr. William S. Clayton II of Eaton, Ohio; Son & Daughter-In-Law: Dr. John Steven & Patricia Gibson of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; Brothers: Theodore Gibson, Col. Eugene Gibson and David Gibson all of Missouri; Sister: Louanna Gibson Burton of Missouri; Grandchildren: Traci (David) Grissom, Douglas (Kelly) Clayton, Carey (Gregg) Carrier and Daniel Gibson; Great Granddaughter: Abigail Louise Grissom. Numerous Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2004 - 10:00 A.M. at Barnes Funeral Home - 220 East Main Street - Eaton, Ohio with the Rev. David P. Turner & Rev Wayne D. Morrison officiating. Interment will be in the Mound Hill Union Cemetery in Eaton with full military graveside service by the Preble County Honor Guard. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 7, 2004 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
