Joel R. Borden

Joel R. Borden, age 73, of New Paris, Ohio, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at his residence. Born on September 24, 1935 in Vincennes, Indiana he was the son of Forrest "Pete" & Georgia (Shields) Borden. Joel had a life long career as a country music musician playing the lead guitar. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 and was stationed in Germany. He was a self employed Carpenter and Painter. During 1979 to 1982 he worked as an optician at Allied Optical in Richmond and from 1990 to 2001 he was the Supervisor of security at the Richmond Square Mall. Member of American Legion Post 360 and the Legion Riders of New Paris. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Preceded in death by his father and a nephew: Trevor Borden.

Survived by his wife, Charlene Viola (Teegarden) Borden; mother, Georgia Borden of Richmond, Indiana; daughters & sons-In-Law, Jody & David Marsee of Richmond, Indiana and Jackie & Jim McGuire of Middletown, Ohio; brother & sister-in-law, Tom & Marcia Borden of Richmond, Indiana; Four grandchildren, Daniel Marsee, Patrick Marsee, Sydney McGuire and Jimmy McGuire; nephews, Tommy Borden and Bob Teegarden; cousin, Marlin Groomer; canine friend, Susie.

Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Barnes Funeral Home, 109 West Main Street, New Paris, Ohio with full Military Services provided by the Preble County Honor Guard. Family will receive friends Saturday, August 1, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be held in Spring Lawn Cemetery at New Paris, Ohio.
