Joan Shafer

JOAN (ALFORD) SHAFER, 87, of Eaton, Ohio, died Friday, November 25, 2011 at Greenbriar in Eaton, Ohio. Born on January 29, 1924 in Preble County, Ohio, daughter of the late Antonin & Ari (Curry) Alford. Joan graduated in 1942 from Eaton High School and from in 1944 with an Associate Degree from Miami Jacobs in Dayton, Ohio. Joan was a secretary for many years having worked at Frigidaire in Dayton, Ohio, Eaton Soil & Conservation, Eaton Loan & Home Aid and Eaton City Schools at East Elementary before retiring in 1989. Joan was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Eaton, Ohio for 87 years.

Preceded by brothers-in-law, Marion Swisher and Bruce Ewald; her beloved dog, Ping.

Survived by her daughters, Susan Workman and Nancy Groves both of Columbus, Ohio; sisters, Virginia Swisher of Monroe, Ohio and Carolyn Ewald of Scottsdale, Arizona; grandchildren, Stephanie, Kristine, Curt, and Brent; great grandchildren, Evan, Anna Jane, Andrew, Irelynn, and Kier; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:30 am, Saturday, December 10, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church, 123 West Decatur Street, Eaton, Ohio with Rev. Wayne Morrison officiating. Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:30 am prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
