James J. Goodwin

James J. Goodwin, 91 of Gratis Twp., Preble County, Ohio, died Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at his residence. Born on July 15, 1932 in Hamilton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Riley F. & Anna M. (Gaghyan) Goodwin.

Preceded in death by his Wife of 62 years: Edna J. (Lawson) Goodwin in 2020; Grandson: James R. Berry in 2009.

Jim retired after 36 years at Armco Steel in Middletown. A graduate of Gratis Township High School where he was active in track, earning many ribbons and medals at local and state events, a 4-H member where he showed sheep and hogs where he earned numerous awards. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. In addition to time spent with his family, Jim enjoyed attending the Indy 500 since 1957, a mechanic for Parnell Jones from 1963 – 1968. His Indy legacy along with his 1967 GTO is now passed down to his daughter and grandchildren. He attended Calvary Baptist Church in West Alexandria.

Survived by Daughter: Sherry E. (Dave) Taulbee; Grandchildren: Colby E. (Teresa) Berry, Jody (Cyndi) Berry, Austin J. Berry, and Holli J. (Darren) Berry – O’Banion; 10 great grandchildren and 17 great great grandchildren where he held a special bond with four-year-old Kohen and eleven-year-old Gracie; Special Sister-in-laws: Nellaveen Montgomery and Kathleen Morris.

Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Barnes Funeral Home, 220 East Main Street, Eaton, Ohio with Pastor David Spears officiating. Interment will be held in Fairmount Cemetery in Camden with military honors by the Preble County Honor Guard.
