HERMAN L. "SHAG" WEBB, 74 of Somerville, OH, passed away, Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Hospice of Hamilton in Hamilton, OH with his family by his side. He was born on October 14, 1937 in Hamilton, OH, son of the late Chester Arthur and Hilda Bethina (Whitmore) Webb. Shag graduated in 1955 from Stewart High School in Oxford, OH and was a member of the Ohio National Guard. He retired in 1990 from Armco Steel in Middletown, OH, where he was a welder for over 29 years. He was an athlete and an avid sports fan and loved supporting his favorite team the Alabama Crimson Tide. Shag was known to many as the world's best fisherman. He loved to spend his free time fishing and teaching kids how to fish. Everyone loved to hear his never ending fishing tales. He was a loved and admired championship little league baseball coach in Somerville for many years and loved to play fast pitch softball. Shag was a member of the Middletown Moose Lodge # 501 and the Middletown F.O.E. # 528.
Preceded in death by two infant sons, David and Gary Webb; sisters, Ruby Hampton, Ethel Hines and Hazel Jones; brothers, John G. and William Webb.
Shag married the love of his life, Betty Owens Webb in 1963 and they spent 49 years together. He is also survived by his children & spouses, Leanne & Ron George of New Paris, OH, Dee Dee & Eddy Bruns of Hamilton and Steven Webb of Somerville; grandchildren, Jessica & Cassidy Bruns; Mason Roberts; Jennifer (Jason) Arcuragi and Larken Davidson; great grandchildren, Jasmine, Joslynn & Jaelynn Arcuragi; Skyler & Gunner Roberts; sisters, Dorothy Gabbard of Camden, OH, Pam Rader of Somerville and Nancy Murphy of Brownsburg, IN; brothers, Charles Webb of Liberty, IN, Arthur Webb of Camden and John Webb of Hamilton; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Hospice of Hamilton for all their kindness and care during this difficult time.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 9, 2012 at Somerville United Presbyterian Church, corner of Walnut and Church St., Somerville. Interment will be held in Somerville Cemetery next to the church. Family will receive friends on Thursday, March 8, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Barnes Funeral Home, 249 N. Main St., Camden, OH.
