Helen Joan Jodi Charles

Helen Joan "Jodi" Charles, age 74 of Hamilton, Ohio passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2008 at Hawthorn Glen Retirement Center in Middletown, Ohio. Born on February 26, 1933 in Preble County, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Alva M. & Marguerite E. (Orr) Charles. She would have celebrated her 75th birthday on Tuesday. Jodi was educated in the Fairhaven and Dixon High School graduating in 1951. She received her B.S. at Earlham College and her Masters Degree from Ball State University. Jodi began her teaching career at the Richmond YWCA, where she taught adult classes for women. Thereafter, she taught physical and health education at Cambridge City, IN, Preble Shawnee School in Camden and in the Middletown City Schools where she retired in 1987. Jodie was an exceptional athlete, and especially enjoyed playing high school sports. She was an avid softball player and was a member of both the Richmond Devilettes and the Indiana Anchorettes. She was also on a Indiana traveling volleyball team. Jodi was preceded in death by her sister: Kathryn E. Coleman in 2004 and brother: James Orr Charles in 1918.

Survived by her close friend: Dorotha P. Stahlheber of Hamilton, OH., cousin Myron & Mildred Orr of Eaton, OH, two nephews: John Coleman and Jim Coleman and niece Chris Smith and many special friends.

Funeral Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday, February 28, 2008 at Nein-Barnes Funeral Home - 249 N. Main St. - Camden, OH. with Rev. Greg Jackson officiating. Interment will be held in Fairhaven Cemetery - Camden, Ohio Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
