Harry Joseph Fliehman, age 84 passed away peacefully at his home in New Paris, Ohio on Friday, October 1, 2010. Born on December 2, 1925 in Cedar Grove, Indiana, he was the son of the late Phillip William & Clara (Eckerly) Fliehman. Harry graduated from Brookville High School in Brookville, Indiana. Harry retired after 30 years as a Manager in Mail Processing for the U.S. Postal Service at the Richmond, Indiana Post Office, and was a Preble County Farmer for many years. He was an active member of St. John's Catholic Church in New Paris, Ohio, Knights of Columbus in Eaton, Ohio, American Legion Clarence Teaford Post in New Paris, Ohio and VFW in Richmond, Indiana.
Harry proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Staff Sergeant and as a Sergeant First Class in the Army Security Agency in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He received several medals including the Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, and Five Battle Stars.
Preceded by his brothers, William Fliehman, Carl Fliehman, Jerome Fliehman; sisters, Margie Fliehman and Mary Catherine Niedenthal.
Survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruth (Gettelfinger) Fliehman of New Paris, Ohio; children & spouses, Steve & Debbie Fliehman of Long Grove, Illinois, Debbie & David Coleman of New Paris, Ohio, Keith & Carol Fliehman of Richmond, Indiana, and Paul & Mary Fliehman of New Paris, Ohio; sister & brother-in-law, Carolyn & Jack Rowbothom of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren, Sara, Lauren, Andrew, Nicholas, Jenna, Ryan, Crisanne Austin, Lindsay, Christopher, and Keith; great grandchildren, Bryce and Riley; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at St. John's Catholic Church, North Spring Street, New Paris, Ohio with Rev. J. Thomas Fitzsimmons officiating. Interment will be held at Spring Lawn Cemetery in New Paris, Ohio with full honors provided by the Preble County Honor Guard.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with Rosary Service at 8:00 PM at Barnes Funeral Home, 109 West Main Street, New Paris, Ohio 45347.
