Gregory W. Shiverdecker, age 46, of Eaton, OH died Saturday evening, October 4, 2003 at his residence. Born on August 4, 1957 in Hamilton, Ohio he was a 1975 Preble Shawnee High School graduate. Preceded in death by his Father: Jack W. Shiverdecker in 1988 and an Infant Brother and Grandfather: Abraham Lincoln Shiverdecker in 1984.
In 1979 he received his Ohio Peace Officers Certificate from the Dayton Police Academy and began police work in 1981 with the Village of Camden becoming the youngest Police Chief in the State of Ohio. During this time he was active with the Camden Emergency Squad. He had also worked in West Alexandria, Ohio and with the Special Deputies of the Preble County Sheriff’s Department. In 1984 he started as a Police officer with the City of Eaton. In 1991 he received training as a Evidence Technician at the Miami Valley Regional Crime Lab and became a Detective with the City of Eaton - Police Division in 1994 until retiring in January 2000. He was awarded many commendations for his service as a police officer to include the Distinguish Service Award from the Buckeye Sheriff’s Association and Officer of the Year by The City of Eaton - Police Division in 1991. In 1987 he organized the first Whispering Christmas at Fort St. Clair Park in Eaton, Ohio.
Survivors include his Wife of 2 years: Lisa K. (Stinson) Shiverdecker; Mother & Step-Father: Patsy Z. & Byron Alspaugh of Eaton, Ohio; Grandmother: Mary Ellen Shiverdecker of Lewisburg, Ohio; Daughters: Brandy N. Shiverdecker-Teach & Son-In-Law: Braydon Teach of Eaton, Ohio; Natalie N. Westover of Eaton, Ohio. Sister & Brother-In-Law: Gloria & Dennis Scheiding of Eaton, Ohio; Nieces: Shannon Moore and Angie Taylor; Nephew: Daniel Taylor; 3 Great Nephews; Aunts & Uncles.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2003 - 11:00 A.M. (Ohio Time) at Barnes Funeral Home -220 East Main Street - Eaton, Ohio with Rev. Keith Spencer officiating. Interment will be held in Fairmound Cemetery in West Elkton, Ohio with police honors. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 7, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. (Ohio Time) at the funeral home.
