Gilbert J. Harris

Gilbert “Gib” J. Harris, age 73, of Eldorado, Ohio, died Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at Wayne Hospital in Greenville, Ohio. Born on August 16, 1932 in Butler County, near Oxford, Ohio, he was the son of the late William J. & Julia (Mecsay) Harris. He grew up and attended school in Camden, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War with the artillery of the 3rd Division. He had worked at Shuler Beninghofen Woolen Mills in Hamilton, Ohio, Moto-Mower Lawn Mower in Richmond, Indiana, and was a farmer in Preble County for 55 years. He was a 4-H leader for 34 years and a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church of Eaton, Ohio. Gilbert enjoyed entering items at the Preble County Fair and the Ohio State Fair for many years. He enjoyed being a parent and grandparent. Preceded in death by step mother: Maude Harris; brothers: James & Robert Harris; sister-in-law: Louise Harris; brother-in-law: James Akers.

Survived by Wife of 49 years: Anna Belle (Akers) Harris of Eldorado, Ohio; son & daughter-in-law: David & Deniece Harris of Eldorado, Ohio; daughter & son-in-law: Annette & Rodney Mann; grandsons: Greg and Doug Harris; step-granddaughter: Danika Mann; step-brother: Gus Reinke; sisters-in-law: Jo Ann Harris and Evelyn Akers; sister-in-law & husband: Margaret & Leland Smith; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2006 at Barnes Funeral Home - 220 East Main Street - Eaton, Ohio with Rev. Steve Cann officiating. Interment will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Camden, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Friday, April 28, 2006 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
