Gertrude E. (Masterson) Hazelwood, age 80, formerly of Lewisburg, Ohio and resident of Polk City, Florida, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, January 11, 2009 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. Born on March 21, 1928 in Bourbon County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Commadore T. & Mildred (Craycraft) Masterson. Gertrude was a feed representative for Joy Dog Food for many years. She was a Beagler in Lewisburg, Ohio from 1957 to 1982. Gerturde was a waitress at Truck Stops of America in Eaton, Ohio formerly known as Stop 127 from 1964 to 1973 and Denny's Restaurant in Lakeland, Florida from 1982 to 1992. Member of First Baptist Church in New Paris, Ohio, United Methodist Church in Verona, Ohio and United Methodist Church in Aburndale, Florida. Gertrude was incredibly benevolent in giving of her time, talents, and treasures to all of her church affiliations. As an aspiring singer she sang on the radio as a youth and continued her love for music participating in her church choirs. A woman of God who could say, "To live is Christ and to die is gain", who is now departed to be with the Father; leaving all who knew her with a Godly Heritage to pass on for generations.
Preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, James P. Hazelwood in 1993; granddaughter, Jessie P. Hazelwood in 2003; sister, Louise Williams.
Survived by her children & spouses, Jacki & Kenny Horack of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Asa & Pam Hazelwood of Knoxville, Tennessee, Suggar & Mick Getter of Lewisburg, Ohio, Susi & Tink McKee of New Paris, Ohio, Pastor Jim & Lisa Hazelwood of West Alexandria, Ohio and Mark & Joanne Hazelwood of Knoxville, Tennessee; grandchildren & their spouses, Brandy, Blake, Mandy, Amy, Chrissy, Kirk, Robyn, Breeann, Carson, Keenan, Anna, Kat, Ashley, Asa and Parker; 21 great grandchildren; brothers & sisters-in-law, Charles Masterson of Paris, Kentucky, John R. Masterson of Lexington, Kentucky and J. W. Masterson of Richmond, Kentucky; sister, Mary Keller of Lexington, Kentucky; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at First Baptist Church, 6751 State Route 320, New Paris, Ohio with Rev. Reggie Osborne officiating. Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at the church. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family at Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens in Auburndale, Florida. Arrangements by Barnes Funeral Homes.
The Family of Gertrude Hazelwood requests that in lieu of flowers, that contributions be made to someone who was very dear to her heart, her 5 year old great granddaughter, Skye Getter who is dealing with her 3rd bout with Cancer (Wilm's Disease).
