GENETA L. “GEN” ACHESON, 79, of Eaton, Ohio died Friday, December 21, 2007 in Richmond, Indiana. Born on December 13, 1928 in New Castle, Indiana, the daughter of the late Homer & Pearl E. (Samuels) Smith. A 1944 graduate of New Castle High School and attended Indiana University. Gen was the founder and leader of Preble Swingers and Preble Gospel Sounds, developed Deer Trail with her husband, former Eaton Council Member and Mayor, Preble County Literacy Coalition, Lyric Club, Gen’s Country Cupboard & Gifts. She was active at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the music program. Known by the kids of the community as “Mother of Eaton”. She was involved with several beautification projects in the Eaton area, active for many years with the Humane Society, talk program on WCTM for several years, Civic Theater and the Carol Lou Trio, both in Richmond.
Preceded in death by Daughter: Kimberly Lynn Kern in 1982, Stepson: Steven G. Acheson in 2003, Brother: Philip E. Smith in 1982; Sisters-in-law: Aldine Acheson, Vivian Patrie and Patsy O’Donnell.
Survived by Husband of 41 years: Cyril R. Acheson; Son: Gregory W. (Karen M.) Kern, Eaton, Ohio; Daughter: Constance A. (John W.) Rhind, Columbus, Ohio; Daughter-in-law: Sheila F. Acheson, Richmond, Indiana; Sister-in-law: Betty Smith, Winter Haven, Florida; Brother-in-law: John P. O’Donnell, Dayton, Ohio. Grandchildren: Justin & Sarah Acheson, Holly & Laura Soper and Brandon Kern. Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church - 123 West Decatur Street - Eaton, Ohio with Rev. Wayne D. Morrison officiating. Interment will be held in Mound Hill Union Cemetery in Eaton. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 26, 2007 from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Barnes Funeral Home - 220 East Main Street - Eaton, Ohio and one hour prior to service at the church.
