Fred Gross

Fred Gross, 86, of Eaton, Ohio died Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Heartland of Eaton where he had been a resident for the past four years. Born on December 22, 1924 in Buckhorn, Perry Co., Kentucky. He attended Buckhorn School. Fred proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Combat Medic during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. During World War II, he served during Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, and the Battle of the Bulge where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He retired after 20 years in the Army in 1969 and was employed as the Preble County Health Inspector until 1980. Fred was also a Kentucky Colonel.

Preceded in death by his grandmother who raised him, Mary Gross; sister, Vesta Smith.

Survived by his wife of 41 years, Ruth (Lovely) Gross; son, Freddie Gross of Eaton, OH; daughters & son-in-law, Susie & Dean Call of Eaton, OH, Tonya & John Woodcock of Camden, OH, and Rhonda & Tom Shepherd of Camden, OH; grandchildren, Trevor Gross, Mike Moistner, Clint Moistner, Ami McDivitt, and Megan Shepherd all of Eaton, OH; several cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Barnes Funeral Home, 220 East Main Street, Eaton, OH 45320 with Rev. Wayne Morrison officiating. Interment will be held at Concord Cemetery in Dixon Township, Preble Co., OH with full military honors provided by the Preble County Honor Guard. Family will receive friends from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at the funeral home.
