Frank J. Horvath, 83, of Dayton, OH, died early Tuesday morning, November 5, 2014 at his residence with family by his side. He had endured a long battle with cancer, which spanned several years.
Frank was born January 12, 1931 to Frank George & Elizabeth Marie (Podrosky) Horvath in Edgerton, OH. Both parents were born in Hungary prior to immigrating to the United States. His father and youngest brother, along with the family dog, were both killed many years ago when struck by lightning.
Following High School Frank married Edna Polk, who preceded him in death several years ago. Together they had 5 children: daughter Susan (deceased); 4 surviving children: Dale (Sue) Horvath Sr., Springfield, OH; Terry (Marjorie) Horvath Sr., Bellbrook, OH; Kimberly (Troy) Morris, Radnor, OH; Frank (Julie) Horvath Jr., Delaware, OH.
Frank served 4 years in the United States Marine Corps and then served in the Reserves. He retired after 25 years at Monsanto, where he worked in Research & Development. He held a commercial pilot's license and occasionally worked as a crop duster. Frank enjoyed flying, and built his own airplane. He was a long time member of the VFW and the Eagles of Tipp City.
After the death of his first wife, he met and married Vera (Siler) O'Neil. They had many happy years together and enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S., Canada, & Europe. He added to his family 3 adoring step-children who survive him: Marilyn (Rick) Staup, Vandalia, OH; Michael O'Neil, New Lebanon, OH; Marlene (Michael Burkhart) O'Neil, Columbus, OH. Additional survivors include 11 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 8 step-great-grandchildren, 3 brothers, 2 sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, youngest brother, first wife, and daughter.
Frank has chosen to be cremated, with no service. Family and friends are asked to remember him with a memorial donation to the Eldorado Universalist Church, PO Box 146, Eldorado, OH 45321.
Bussard-Barnes-Vaniman Funeral Home, 311 N. Main St., Eldorado, OH is assisting the family with the arrangements.
