Evelyn R. Spencer

EVELYN R. SPENCER, 92, formerly of "B" Road, New Paris, OH died Thursday, July 23, 2015 at the Greenbriar Nursing Center, Eaton, OH.

Evelyn was born March 2, 1923 in Dayton, OH to Claude Eugene & Gladys R. (Jones) Spencer. She grew up and was raised in Northridge, where she graduated from Northridge High School in 1942. After graduation the family, including her brother Randall and sister Phyllis, moved to a farm outside of New Paris. She soon moved back to the Dayton/Northridge area. She then lived in Tipp City and was employed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base for 30 years, retiring from the Dept. of Foreign Affairs. Following retirement, she moved back to Dayton, then to Eldorado, and finally back to the family farm on "B" Road.

In her early years, Evelyn was well-known for her beautiful ballroom dancing. She also belonged to bowling leagues and enjoyed playing golf. After moving back to Preble County, she volunteered at the Once Around Shop in Eaton, and was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Eaton, OH.

Throughout her life, her greatest joy was her nieces & nephew – taking them on walks to teach them about nature, and instilling in them the importance of family.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Randall Spencer, and nephew James Spencer.

Survivors include her sister Phyllis (Cecil "Woody") Jordan of New Paris; nieces Paula (Archie) Gallaher, Sharon Cox; nephew Spencer (Shelly) Jordan – all of New Paris; great nieces: Ciara (Tony) Baker, Tiffany Jordan, Shania Jordan, Kara Gallaher, Erika Gallaher, Ashley Cox. Also, sister-in-law Gladys Spencer of Urbana, OH; nieces & nephew; Laura Milton of PA., Diane (Bill) Kremer, John Spencer, both of Urbana; great nephews Joe Kremer, CA., Tom Kremer, Urbana.

The funeral service for Evelyn Spencer will be Tuesday. July 28, 2015 at 10:00 am at the Bussard-Barnes-Vaniman Funeral Home, 311 N. Main St., Eldorado, OH, with Pastor Warren A. Reichert officiating. Friends may call on Monday, July 27, from 6 – 8 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Willow View Cemetery, Dayton, OH.
