Ethel F. Hawley, age 86 of New Paris, Ohio went to be with the Lord, Saturday, December 27, 2008. Born on November 24, 1922 in Montgomery, Alabama she was the daughter of the late Lovelace Rudolf & Ethel Corine (Salter) Godwin. Ethel graduated in 1940 from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, Alabama. Ethel retired in 1989 as an executive secretary and bookkeeper from Imperial Products in Richmond, Indiana. Twice Past Matron and 50 year member of the Eastern Star in New Paris, Ohio. Ethel served five years as a Preble County representative on the advisory council of the Ohio Area Agency on Aging. Active member of Central United Methodist Church in Richmond, Indiana. Member of the Prime Timers Group of Central United Methodist Church.
Preceded in death by her brothers, Frank L. Godwin, Edgar Godwin, L. R. Godwin, Jr., Winfred Godwin and James Donald Godwin; sisters, Melba Johnston and Sadie Russell.
Survived by her husband of 66 years, Ralph Hawley of New Paris, Ohio; children & spouses, Janet & David Hickok of Sagamore Hills, Ohio, Donna Burdette of Edgewater, Florida, Carol Brady of New Paris, Ohio and Stan Hawley of Vandalia, Ohio; grandchildren, Amy Berch, Allen & Carole Brady, John Jessup, Matthew & Melissa Jessup, Jeff & Lori Burdette, Renee & Steve Moy, Jacob Brady, Katie Jessup; 13 great grandchildren; nephews and nieces.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at Central United Methodist Church, 1425 East Main Street, Richmond, Indiana with Rev. Scott Bell officiating. Interment will be held at Spring Lawn Cemetery in New Paris, Ohio. Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Barnes Funeral Homes, 109 West Main Street, New Paris, Ohio and one hour prior at the church. Eastern Star Service at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at the funeral home.
