Esther Mcdermitt

ESTHER McDERMITT, age 96, formerly of New Paris, Ohio, died Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at Bethany Village in Centerville, Ohio. Born on April 23, 1911 in Elwood, Madison County, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late John & Clarinda (Starchman) Tomlinson. She liked to cook, sew, embroidery, crochet, piece quilts and loved to read. She worked 16 years for the S. S. Kresge Co. and 8 months for the Nehi Bottling Co. both Richmond, Indiana. A member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Triple L Club and United Methodist Womens Club of the church. Esther married on September 5, 1928 to Layman McDermitt whom preceded her after 58 years of marriage. She is also preceded in death by a Son-in-laws: Raymond Reynolds and Bob Bumpus; Grandchildren: Dennis McDermitt and infant Kirk Bailey; Sisters: Leota Johnson, Ocie Haynes; Brothers: Chandler Tomlinson and Clifford Tomlinson. Esther was the hub of her family and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by Daughters: Catherine Reynolds, New Paris, Ohio, Clara (Bill) Porter, Richmond, Indiana, Betty (Keith) Rexrode, Barnwell, South Carolina, Carol Sue Bumpus, Union City, Ohio and Rosetta (Bill) Brower, Centerville, Ohio; Sons: Lloyd (Ladema) McDermitt, Richmond, Indiana, David (Carol) McDermitt, New Paris, Ohio. 28 Grandchildren, 63 Great Grandchildren and Numerous Great Great Grandchildren. Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, November 9, 2007 - 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church - 301 East Main Street - New Paris, Ohio with Rev. LaDonna Clary officiating. Interment will be held in Springlawn Cemetery in New Paris. Family will receive friends on Thursday, November 8, 2007 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Barnes Funeral Home - 109 West Main Street - New Paris, Ohio and one hour prior to service at the church.
