E. Catharine Battista

E. CATHARINE (SHAEFFER) BATTISTA, age 81 of Richmond, Indiana died Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana. Born on December 23, 1927 in Eldorado, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Mark & Pearl Irene (Miller) Shaeffer. She graduated in 1945 from Monroe High School in Preble County, Ohio. Catharine was a beautician and then she met Gene and was married in 1948. Catharine was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church in New Paris, Ohio and a member of the Richmond Senior Center in Indiana.

Preceded by her husband of 51 years, Eugene "Gene" Battista in 2000; son, Larry Battista, Sr. in 2007; grandson, Jerry Battista in 1977; brother, Glen Shaeffer.

Survived by daughters & son-in-law, Diana Battista of New York, New York, Vicki Battista of Richmond, Indiana and Debbie & Lawrence Williams of Richmond, Indiana; daughter-in-law, Vivian Battista of Richmond, Indiana; brother, Lloyd Shaeffer of Greenville, Ohio; grandsons, Larry & Melanie Battista, Jr. of Centerville, Indiana and Gary Battista of Indianapolis, Indiana; great grandsons, Jaeden Battista of Indianapolis, Indiana and Nicholas Battista of Centerville, Indiana; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 2, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church, North Spring, New Paris, Ohio with Rev. J. Thomas Fitzsimmons officiating. Entombment will be held at Preble Memory Gardens in West Alexandria, Ohio. Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Barnes Funeral Home, 109 West Main Street, New Paris, Ohio.
