Doyle DeWitt Douglass of Lewisburg, Ohio, died Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Hospice of Dayton. Born on October 7, 1917 in Brookville, Ohio the son of Charles H. & Maude L. (Riley) Douglass. A graduate of Lewisburg Union High School, Miami Jacobs Business College and the U.S. Air Force Statistical School, Mr. Douglass also attended training at the Harvard Business School, the University of Dayton and the University of Cincinnati. He was employed as an accountant at the Journal Herald Publishing Company before serving as a Captain in the 13th Air Force in the Philippines Islands. After the war, Mr. Douglass joined the accounting practice of Cassel, Groneweg, Rohlfing & Clark CPA's before forming his own accounting firm in Dayton, Ohio. Mr. Douglass was a member of the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants, an honorary Member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and Member and Past Director of the National Association of Accountants. Mr. Douglass was active in many community organizations including the Senior Citizens Recreation, Inc. of Dayton, Ohio, the American Legion Post of Lewisburg, Ohio, the Preble County Historical Society, the Lewisburg United Methodist Church, the Dayton Exchange Club, and the Dayton Bicycle Club. Mr. Douglass also served on the boards of various local corporations.
Mr. Douglass was an avid fisherman and golfer counting several large fish, a hole-in-one and a round of golf on The Old Course of St. Andrews near Edinburgh, Scotland as personal accomplishments.
Mr. Douglass is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary E. (Trittschuh) Douglass, and his son Daniel DeWitt Douglass. He is survived by daughters Sandra (Philip) Hopf and Marsha (Lee) MtCastle, nine Grandchildren, nineteen Great Grandchildren and various nieces and nephews as well as his three sisters Nora Jane James and Alberta A. Wehrly both of Dayton, Ohio and June D. Sauer of Stanford, Connecticut. In death, Mr. Douglass has donated his body to the Wright State University Medical School.
Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Roselawn Cemetery in Lewisburg, Ohio with full military honors provided by the Preble County Honor Guard.
