Douglas E. (Dolihite) Smith

Douglas E. (Dolihite) Smith, a resident of Eaton, Ohio, passed away on October 3, 2020 at Stillwater Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in Covington, Ohio. Doug was born February 10,1949 in Bethesda, Maryland to the late Phyllis Craig and Earl Dolihite. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by a granddaughter: Aeryn Engle, brother: Vernon Dolihite and adopted father: Ralph A. Smith.  

Doug is survived by his wife: Jane (Morell) Smith of Sweeny, Texas; daughters Phyllis Engle (Brian) Fairborn, Ohio and Dolores Holp (Josh) West Alexandria, OH and step-daughter: Kristen (Shawn) Jackson of Florida along with 7 grandchildren: Devinn Allen (Alex), Blake Holp (Kiley), Kadin Holp, Gavin Holp, Nathan Engle, William Engle, and Sara Engle. 

Doug was a 1967 graduate of Twin Valley South High School and enjoyed helping organize the monthly class meetings for their reunions. Doug joined the Navy in 1969 and was very proud of his 22 years in the service and serving our country. He was a Vietnam Veteran. Returning to Ohio he was employed at the Dayton VA Medical Center Eye Clinic until retirement in 2013. Doug was a member of Visitation Church in Eaton which he served as an usher.  

Family will receive friends from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM Friday, October 9, 2020 at Barnes Funeral Home, 220 East Main Street, Eaton, Ohio. A Funeral Mass will be12:00 PM Friday, October 9, 2020 at Visitation Catholic Church 407 East Main Street Eaton, Ohio with Rev. David A. Doseck officiating. Interment will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery – West Alexandria, Ohio with full military honors provided by the Preble County Honor Guard.
