Donald N. Deaton, 67, of 711 Lincoln St., Eaton, died Wednesday morning, June 21, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind., after a short illness. A native and lifelong resident of Preble County, he was born May 15, 1928, the son of Newton A. and Emma B. (Brubaker) Deaton. He was a 1947 graduate of Eaton High School, and had served with the Ohio National Guard from 1948 to 1951. He was a member of the Eaton Church of the Brethren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary I. (Riley) Deaton in 1982; his second wife, Helen M. (Overholtz) Deaton, in 1986; and a brother, Francis A. Deaton, in 1941.
Survivors include his wife, Norma F. (Daugherty) Deaton; one son, Stephen A. Deaton of Eaton; three daughters, Linda S. Hapner of Ainsworth, Neb., Donna M. Elliott of Eaton and Sarah A. Ward of Lewisburg. Also surviving are eight stepchildren, Norma J. Sheffer of Lynn, Ind., Clara A. McBride of Centerville, Ind., Ed Rodefer and David Rodefer, both of Richmond, Ind., Frank Rodefer of Harlan, Ky., Ted Cornthwaite and Wendy Clark, both of Camden, and Cindy Scheel of Florence, Ky.; two sisters, Rachel D. Flora of Camden and Alice M. Geeting of Shelbyville, Tenn; one brother, Robert N. Deaton of Columbus; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday, June 24, at the Eaton Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Craig H. Smith officiating. Burial of in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, to the American Heart Fund or to the Eaton church of the Brethren.
