Don W Simon

Don W. Simon, age 75, of New Paris, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana. Born on December 18, 1949 in Coudersport, Pennsylvania, son of the late Charles Thomas & Iwana Nells (Mills) Simon.

Don proudly served in the US Navy from 1969 to 1971 during the Vietnam War.

He graduated from Marietta College in 1975 with a BA and then in 1979 from Bowling Green State University with a Master of Arts and a Master of Fine Arts. He was a visual art teacher for 26 years at National Trail Schools from 1979 to 2005. Don designed and painted the National Trail Mural which was completed 2004. He also worked at Hobby Lobby in Richmond, Indiana from 2007 to 2011.

Survived by his wife of 50 years, Trudie Simon; son & daughter-in-law, Zachery Thomas & Myka Simon; daughter & son-in-law, Anna Christine & Casey Lee Purvis; brother, Joseph Gray; grandchildren, Matthew Brock, Sophia Rose Simon, Imani Powers, Gauge Thomas Simon and Rafael Simon Purvis.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Barnes Funeral Home, 109 West Main Street, New Paris, Ohio. Interment will be held at a later date at Spring Lawn Cemetery in New Paris, Ohio.
