David Eugene Unger

David E. Unger, 77, of Brookville, OH, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 1, 2018. David was a 1958 graduate of Lewisburg Union High School in Lewisburg, OH. He served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1961 on the U.S.S. Saratoga. After his service in the U.S. Navy, he worked for 10 years at the National Cash Register Corporation (NCR) where he met his wife, followed by thirty years at the General Telephone Company (GTE) as an installer and telephone repairman. David served as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 47 in Brookville, OH for many years with the Boy Scouts of America. During his retirement, he enjoyed traveling and spent many years with his wife as a “snow-bird” in Bradenton, FL. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Lewisburg, OH. He later attended Bethel Temple Assembly of God in Dayton, OH; Christian Life Center in Vandalia, OH; and most recently with both the Bayshore Church of the Nazarene in Bradenton, FL; and the First United Church of Christ in Lewisburg, OH.  

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, George Allen and Addie J. (Geeting) Unger; his maternal grandparents, Franklin James and Ada Elizabeth (Buehner) Rediger; his parents Dana David and Ada L. (Rediger) Unger.  

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-four years, M. Euniece (Millat) Unger; his daughter and son-in-law, Darlene C. (Unger) and (Larry W.) Hoff of Colorado Springs, CO; his two beautiful granddaughters, Janell K. and Amanda G. Hoff of Colorado Springs, CO; his son and daughter-in-law, Doyle A. and Melanie (Simmons) Unger of Columbus, OH. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews. 

Family will receive friends on Friday, April 6, 2018 from 4–7 P.M. at the Barnes Funeral Home, 411 N. Commerce St., Lewisburg, OH and one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the funeral home with Rev. David O. Justis officiating. Interment will be held in Sugar Grove Cemetery, West Alexandria, OH with Military Honors by the Preble County Honor Guard.
