D. Joan Simon

D. JOAN (PERKINS) SIMON, age 85, of Eaton, Ohio, died Saturday, August 28, 2010, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. Born on August 14, 1925 in Union City, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Emmet U. & Jeannette (Worth) Perkins. Joan was a 1943 graduate of Camden High School in Camden, Ohio and a 1946 graduate of the Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing. Joan retired in 1984 after many years as a nurse for several area nursing homes. Joan was a member of Visitation Catholic Church and St. Ann's Sodality.

Joan served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader as well as an active collector for the American Heart Fund. Joan served on the Preble County Election Board for many years. In addition to her civic interest, she was an avid quilter and created many crocheted gifts for friends and family.

Preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Walter E. "Bud" Simon in 2000; sisters, Lois Sipe in 1968 and Margaret Overman.

Survived by her children & spouses, John A. & Susan Simon of Bellefontaine, Ohio, Janet K. & Nick Carroll of Eaton, Ohio, Tom J. & Andrea Simon of Bellefontaine, Ohio and Jim W. & Cheri Simon of Brookville, Ohio; twin brother, Joe Perkins of Moraine, Ohio; sister, Marcella Wright of New Carlisle, Ohio, and seven grandchildren, Amy Yeager, Robert Simon, Chrissy Fails, Matt Simon, Kelli Simon, Sean Simon and Lora Staggs, and four great grandchildren, Caroline Yeager, Michael Yeager, Ashlyn Staggs and Bryce Staggs.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Visitation Catholic Church, 407 East Main Street, Eaton Ohio 45320 with Rev. Thomas Fitzsimmons officiating. Interment will be held at Mound Hill Cemetery in Eaton, Ohio.

Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at Barnes Funeral Home, 220 East Main Street, Eaton, Ohio 45320.

Rosary Service will be at held at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at Barnes Funeral Home, 220 East Main Street, Eaton, Ohio 45320.
