Charles Robert Conard, 83, of Eaton, OH, died Saturday, September 27, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born Dec. 27, 1930, to James Carl & Hazel (Griffy) Conard. He graduated from Monroe High School, West Manchester and attended Miami University, Oxford, OH. He also took classes from Ohio State and Sinclair. On November 11, 1950, he married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Davisson, of Eldorado, OH.
Charles & Beverly have been blessed with 4 wonderful children: Vicki (Randy) Livingston, Melbourne, FL; Joni (Connie) Rizzolo, Eaton, OH; Teri (Tom) Roby, London, OH; and Jay (Judy) Conard, Eaton, OH. They have 6 grandchildren; Greg (Summer) Livingston, Jeff Livingston, David (Jessica) Roby, Matt Roby, Laura Conard & Brian Conard. In addition, Charles & Beverly are loved by 5 great-grandchildren; Kate, Owen, & Jack Livingston, and Damian & Colton Roby.
Charlie spent many years in the grain, feed, and elevator business. He became co-owner with his father Carl of the Eldorado Elevator, and was manager of the Lewisburg Feed, Grain, & Fertilizer Elevator. In 1964 he joined Lewisburg Container as Salesman, then Manager of Sales, and finally in an administrative management position until his retirement in 1994.
After retirement, he and Bev spent 10 years traveling the USA in an RV. Everywhere they went they were blessed to find new friends. According the Charlie: "We discovered this land is full of lovely people who help others out of the goodness of their hearts without expecting anything in return."
Charlie enjoyed sports his entire life; playing basketball & baseball in high school and then continuing with amateur teams. In the 1960's & 70's he played basketball, baseball, & badminton in the Senior Olympics at the local and state levels, and then qualified, and played, each year for the National Senior Olympics. He also enjoyed golfing and fishing.
Charlie believed in giving back, and did so with a long list of volunteer activities over the years. He served as FFA Honorary Chapter Farmer, Pee Wee Football coach, Little League coach, Co-Founder & Advisor of Junior Achievement of Lewisburg, Youth Directors (along with Beverly) of the Lewisburg United Methodist Church, President of the Lewisburg Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors of L & M Products, Board of Directors Dayton Area Red Cross, Preble County Red Cross Director, and numerous church offices & committees, both at the Lewisburg United Methodist Church (a member for 50 years), and their current church, Eaton United Methodist Church. He was a Mason, belonging to the Waynesville Lodge 163 F&AM and a member of Scottish Rite, & Antioch Shrine.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law David Fark.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Beverly; 4 children; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister Dorothy Fark , Eldorado, OH; sister-in-law Peg (Bob) Tesch, South Dakota; nieces & nephews, and many friends.
The Funeral Service for Charles R. Conard will be Thursday, October 2nd , 2014 at the Eaton United Methodist Church, 120 N. Maple St, Eaton, OH 45320 at 10:30AM with Rev. Chris Farmer officiating. Burial will follow in Monroe Cemetery, Kimmel Road, Eldorado, OH. Friends may call Wednesday, October 1st , 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Barnes Funeral Home, 220 East Main St., Eaton, OH.
Donations may be made in Charles's name to the Eaton United Methodist Church, or the American Red Cross, 370 West 1st Street, Dayton, OH 45402.
