Charles E. "Red" Compton

Charles E. "Red" Compton, age 82, of Eaton, OH, lost his battle with lung cancer following a 2 year fight on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on March 11, 1934 in Pikeville, Kentucky, son of the late Eugene and Mary (Patridge) Compton. Charles was retired from the Edgewood City Schools in Trenton, OH where he was a custodian for 19 years at the high school. He also worked for Middletown Lumber for many years. Charles loved carpentry and could build anything but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Northside Chapel First Church of God in Camden, OH.

In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his youngest son, Keith O. Compton; brothers, Oral, Rick, Ray and John Compton and sister, Janelle Richter.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years: Betty J. (Watkins) Compton; sons: Merle (Mary) Compton and Darrell Compton; daughter: Lisa (Larry) Strong; brother: Dewitt Compton and sisters, Norma Lofland, who was like a daughter to him; Joyce Mayhew, Judy Cobb and Ellen Smith, who was very dear to him; grandsons: Michael and Brian Compton who held a special place in his heart; and his granddaughters, Amy, Michelle , Tiffany and Megan Compton all of whom he dearly loved. He had a very special bond with his great grandson Brent Compton and had 10 other great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 5, 2016 from 11:00 a.m.to 1:00 p.m. at the Northside Chapel First Church of God, 6820 North Main Street, Camden, OH with the funeral service immediately following at 1:00 p.m.. Pastors David Oakley and Earl Harmon will be officiating. Interment will be held in Butler County Memorial Park. Trenton, OH.
