Cecil Richard "Dick" Bogan, age 84, of Camden, Ohio died Saturday, July 18, 2009 at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford, OH. Dick was born to Cecil Millard & Cora Etta (Baker) Bogan on January 18, 1925 in West Middletown, Ohio. He was the fifth of eleven children. He grew up in Middletown, Ohio and graduated in 1943 from Lemon Monroe High School in Monroe, Ohio. He worked at Aeronca Aircraft Corporation in Middletown, Ohio. On July 4, 1943 he joined the United States Army Engineering Corps and served 2 ½ years in the European Theater during World War II. He was a survivor of five major campaigns: The Battle of Normandy Beach, The Battle of the Seine River in northern France, The Battle of the Rhine River, the Battle in northwest Germany and the Battle of the Bulge. He received the following medals in 2007: European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one Silver Star Attachement (which represents 5 Bronze Stars for 5 major combat campaigns), Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII, Marksman Badge & Rifle Bar and the World War II Victory Medal. After the war he worked at the Middletown, Hamilton and Dayton Journal Newspapers for 20 years and the Cheyenne Newspapers in Cheyenne, Wyoming for a short time. He retired in 1991 from Miami University after 11 years and had been a Real Estate Agent for 30 years in Butler and Preble Counties. Dick attended the Northside Chapel First Church of God in Camden, OH. Preceded in death by Daughter: Yvonne Irving in 2007; Son: Timothy Bogan; six Sisters and two Brothers.

He is survived by his wife: Helen (Tuggle) Bogan; Children: Steven Richard Bogan and Joel Brian Bogan both of Middletown, OH; Step-Children: Gayneil Stephenson of Camden, OH; Michelle Apfeld of Oxford, OH and Michael Johnson of Fruitland Park, Fl; Brother: Bill Bogan of Middletown, OH; 10 Grandchildren: Jeremy Bogan, Lisa Mallory, Lora Outcelt, Ursula Keith, Rachel Rose, Cody Bogan, Britney Bogan, Julie Guilfoyle, Jill Brewer and Josie Creech.; 6 Great Grandchildren: Nathan Munson, Malcoln Outcelt, Mariah Brewer, Dillon Brewer, Lauren Brewer and Scarlett Rose, nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at the Northside Chapel First Church of God - 6830 North Main Street - Camden, Ohio with Rev. Wade Crosby officiating. Interment will be held in Fairmount Cemetery - Camden, Ohio with full military honors provided by the Preble County Honor Guard. Family will receive friends on Monday, July 20, 2009 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Nein - Barnes Funeral Home, 249 North Main Street, Camden, OH.
