Carol Dee (VanWinkle) Ballinger 83 of New Paris, Ohio, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 13, 2023 at her residence. Born on December 23, 1939, in Clover Bottom (Jackson County) Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late James Leslie & Minnie S. (Campbell) VanWinkle. Her dad was a Christian minister and song leader, so Carol and her sisters grew up singing in many churches. In August 1957, she sung with her dad and sister at Climax Christian Church in Rockcastle County, Kentucky, and met the man of her dreams, Everett Myrel Ballinger. They dated until she graduated in 1958 from McKee Kentucky High School and were married on June 28, 1958. They moved to New Paris in 1958 and she was the Bookkeeper for Ballinger Plumbing & Electric for over 45 years. She and Myrel had three children and they enjoyed taking them to church, family reunions, traveling to New York City, Niagara Falls, Disney World, and other places.
Carol lived a good life, enjoying her family, going to church, teaching Sunday School and VBS classes, ladies’ groups, and visiting nursing homes for devotions. She was a long-time and faithful member of New Paris Church of Christ and more recently, Hodgin Road Christian Church. Carol also volunteered as a teacher’s aide at the elementary school in New Paris and delivered Meals on Wheels to area seniors. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, small group home Bible Studies, and having picnics.
