Captain Lee R. Winkler age 25 of San Antonio, TX and formerly of New Paris, OH died on Monday, August 25, 2014 at his residence. He was serving with the U.S. Army at Ft. Sam Houston, TX. Born on December 8, 1988 in Richmond, IN. and was a 2006 National Trail graduate. In 2010 he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from Miami University and on May 31, 2014 he received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, WV. Lee was active in 4-H showing rabbits and horses at the Preble County Fair. He was an Eagle Scout, loved music playing the drums and guitar in a church band and was active in Karate going to Hawaii for a world competition.
Preceded in death by his grandparents: Betty & Joseph Embleton and Vernon Winkler.
Survivors include his parents: Larry R. & Lois A. (Fryman) Winkler of New Paris, OH; sister: Lisa Winkler of Richmond, IN; grandparents: Waneta & Robert Fryman and Jean Winkler; aunts and uncles: Sarah Coffey, Christine Winkler, Cindy & Tom DeLucio, Lauree & Randy Beare, Linda & Mike Guyton and cousins.
Family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Barnes Funeral Home, 109 West Main Street, New Paris, Ohio 45347.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Friday, September, 5, 2014 at the Castine Church of the Brethren – 624 U.S. Route 127 Castine (Darke County, OH) with Rev. Greg Hyre officiating. Interment will be in Springlawn Cemetery – New Paris, OH with full U.S. Army military honors.
