BARBARA J. BROWER, age 77, of New Paris, Ohio, died Friday, December 16, 2005 at Rosegate Village in Richmond, Indiana. Born on April 24, 1928 in New Paris, she was the daughter of the late V. C. "Bud" & Cora Helen (Clawson) Reid. She taught the first grade for 27 years in the Jefferson Township and CR Coblentz School district. She retired in 1990 but continued to volunteer for the Ohio Reads program at National Trail. She was a 1945 Jefferson High School graduate. In 1949 she graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with a Bachelors degree in Communications and in 1961 she received her Masters degree in Education. She was the Co-owner of Bud Reid's Garage of New Paris, a 60 year member of the Eastern Star chapter #310 in New Paris; a 56 year active member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority of New Paris; member and past President of the Preble County Retired Teachers Association and member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. She was a member and trustee for the Preble County Historical Society. She was a Co-Founder of the New Paris News and Co-Chairman of the New Paris Apple Festival. Member of the New Paris Church of Christ. She is preceded in death by her husband: Donald E. Brower in 1998.
Survived by Son & Daughter-in-law: Charles Christopher "Chris" and Jean Brower of New Paris. Grandchildren: Andrea Lynn Brower and Kevin Christopher Brower both of New Paris and Great Granddaughter: Jaleah Lynn Coffey.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 19, 2005 at Barnes Funeral Home - 109 West Main Street - New Paris, Ohio 45347 with Rev. Alan D. Keesling and Rev. LaDonna M. Clary officiating. Interment will be held in Springlawn Cemetery in New Paris. Family will receive friends on Sunday, December 18, 2005 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial service conducted by Delta Theta Tau Sorority will be held at 8:00 p.m.
